Granny & Pap left the Gracey farm with Guy to work and moved into town in 1911. Pap had 303 Bryan built that year. CLICK
Dr. Preston Thomas
Dr. Thomas was the family doctor and made many a house call with his small black bag to 303 Bryan Street. The medicine he offered was folded in little portions, wrapped with waxpaper. Whenever Dot was ill with measles or scarlet fever, a notice was posted on the front door. This photo hung in Bess' front bedroom. Dr. Thomas' name was always spoken with the upmost respect.
The Moseleys
Melissa & her family lived across the street at 301 Bryan. Bess & Melissa talked everyday and took hundreds of pictures of everyone's children.
Marshall Butler
Marshall grew up on Bryan Street. He was raised by his grandmother, "Miss May" Anderson. Melissa Anderson Moseley was his aunt.
Margaret Ann Cayce
Margaret Ann & baby Robert. Robert had club feet and needed lots of surgery. Bess was a big help to Margaret Ann.
Cousin William T. Turner
When our cousin William was in high school, Jim died of a heart attack. His father, Eugene, was a cousin to Bess & his mother, Virginia, was one of her dear friends. William started spending the night at 303 Bryan Street to help Bess adjust to life without Jim Wolfe. Today, William is an admired historian for the western part of Kentucky. CLICK
Gusta
I grew up thinking that Gusta was a member of the family. She came to Grandmother & Granddaddy's house 5 days a week to clean and cook. I loved Gusta, still do!
Cousin Martha Owen
Martha was a registered nurse. She grew up on a farm down the road from our Gracey farm. When she was born, her mother was unable to nurse the new baby. Bettie Hopson nursed Martha & Bess. They were born the same day. She & Bess stayed close always. She left her nursing watch to Betty. CLICK here to see the Gracey farm.
Byrd Witty
Byrd was a dear friend to Bess. She & Judge Witty lived around the corner on Virginia Street. They had one daughter that they lost in a house fire. Whenever Betty was in Hopkinsville, she would go to their house and visit every couple of days. Her heart went out to them because they felt so lonely. Byrd left several nice pieces to Betty in her will.
